Ken Liddle in OfficeKen Liddle's Story

Just an ordinary person (bloke)!!!    I want to share some of my life experiences to help communicate to my friends and colleagues, where there is a will to succeed there is a way.

I started my working career on my parents property at Wandoan (outback Queensland), working on their grain, sheep, cattle and pig property, this was when I left school at 15.  After a some time, wanting to broaden my experience I left the farm and became a tyre fitter for Dunlop Tyre Service.

However, the pull of the land was too strong, so I went back to work on a much larger property than my parents and stayed working there until I was 18.   Now more mature and with a young mans urge to explore and try a different life I started working on drilling rigs, firstly as an offsider then progressing to a driller looking for coal, gas, water and other mineral bores.

In 1985 I decided to make Toowoomba my home and my first job in our Garden City was a labourer in an industrial sandblasting facility.

Opportunity knocked for me when I was offered a job as a truck driver, this enabled me to earn good money to assist my own growing family.   After some time driving with runs both locally and interstate the strain was starting to show on my family.

Even though I enjoyed driving my family comes first, so in 1992 I left truck driving and  became self employed, starting my own garden edging and landscaping business.  This was great until in 1996 the unexpected happened, an accident.

I obtained a serious back injury what has prevented me from returning to any sort of manual labour.  This was a real black hole in my life because working with my hands was all I knew.

This is where my life changed
.  I had to learn office skills, so I volunteered at a local school to learn as much as I could.  At the same time I visited Centrelink twice a week registering and looking for work.

Over time I managed to get to know the Centrelink Staff on a first name basis and after applying for 75 jobs finally secured a job at Centrelink inputting data into their systems and filing.

Then one day as I walked from my car to the Centrelink office, as I did everyday I passed the Copas Newnham First National Real Estate office and decided to enquire about a position there.  They offered me a traineeship and I started there in 1997.

In 2002 I moved over to Toowoomba Home Loans and after lots of training and exams and more training and exams I became accredited to write home loans.  This is where I am today and I love helping people with their finance needs.  Since starting here I have written over $115 million in home loans.

I can relate to you and your requirements because I probably have been there and done that.
